"Believe Achieve Succeed"

Personal Development

Personal development is a vital part of our school. We believe our curriculum should enrich children’s skills and knowledge and provide broader development. Our curriculum drivers: Achievement and Success and Good Citizenship allow our children to develop a strength of character.

VAT Citizenship Award

Through our Character and Citizenship Awards, all pupils are encouraged to engage with the full range of opportunities provided by the curriculum and our enrichment offer so that they leave as well-rounded individuals with the confidence, attitudes and values needed for their future roles in society.

The Awards are based on four key strands which aim to develop both character and citizenship. In each strand, pupils develop their own sense of self and then a growing sense of how they can influence the school and the wider community. For each award, pupils must complete a total of 20 targets with a least 4 from each strand, in order to gain an award. Throughout their Years at Millbrook, they can achieve a bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards.

Our VAT Citizenship Award focuses on 4 strands:

          1) Essential me where they develop self and show their values

          2) Courageous me where they take part and participate

          3) Enthusiastic me where they achieve a target / improve

          4) Responsible me where they take action / influence

We promote equality and differences around the world. We want to teach our children to have an understanding of healthy lifestyles; diversity; cultures and appreciation that difference is positive. Children engages with views and share things in common with different cultures and religions.  We achieve this in several different ways:
